『評価されているポイント』を確実に理解した上で、書き上げる事が大切です。また、ライティングのスコアを上げるには、能力の段階事にそれに応じた対応/学習をする必要があります。(例えば、初級者:英文が書けない人/英語を始めたばかりの人は、中級者や上級者に対するアドバイスではなく、【 今の自分の得点を5点引き上げるためのアドバイス(例えば、7点の人は12点に上げるための指導やアドバイス、15点の人は20点に上げるため)に従い自分の練習/ブラッシュアップするのが大切です。

(初級者0~18点)【このレベルの人は、文法や基礎英語力がUP鍵になります。】 初級者にかかわらず、ライティングの最低ラインに関して評価ポイントをとことん理解し、書き上げます。

評価既定の文字数(300文字)以上の文がを書き、その上で提出する。

[ 米津まさき(TOEFLライティング13→20)] 大量のアウトプット→ロジカル、アイデアという順で重点的に行いました。 僕は勉強会に入るまでライティングの練習などしたことがなかったのでとりあえず書きまくりました。毎日一題やりこみ、300文字を超えることをまずは目標に行っていました。

TOEFLライティングの注意ポイント
[2.] 表現方法

基本的な文法に間違いがないか、とことん確かめる。(特に、三人称、複数形、不規則変化などは、初級の学習者が間違えやすいポイントです。)書き言葉/論文特有の表現を使います。(同じような単語/表現を使いすぎていないか。また適切な副詞や書き言葉特有の文の書き始めなど表現方法を知っていること。)
[ 三浦よしたか(TOEFLライティング13→22)] ロジカルを組み立てれるようになることがライティングで一番大事ということです。もちろん前提として自分が書きたいことを表現できるように基礎的な文法や単語力は必要です。しかし何よりロジカルの組み立て方を意識することで点数が上がっていくと思います。
[ 増永やすのり(TOEFL iBT17→80)] 変な表現があると、それだけで減点対象になります。

(中級者18~25点) 【このレベルの人は、表現方法やロジック/論理力が得点UPのポイントです。】

[3.] 論理展開/ロジック

自分の主張を表現できるだけの「十分な論理性を伴った文」になっているか。(数値例、具体例などを使い、自分の論理をサポートできているかどうか。)
[ 増永やすのり(TOEFL iBT17→80)] 一番気をつけないといけないのがロジカルです。これはほんと注意深くやらないと、すぐにズレていきます。書いている最中にもこまめに見直しを行います。特にパラグラフの書き終わりがトピックに繋がっているかを僕はチェックしていました。
[ 多田ともひろ(TOEFLライティング10→22)] 僕は普段のエッセイ提出時も、実際のテスト時も書き始める前に大まかなアウトラインを日本語で書いていました。 この作業時間は長くても5分程度です。 作業中は、サポート部分に説得力があるか、そして、結論に対してずれていないかという2点を気をつけるよう行っていました。

TOEFLライティング学習方法
[1.] 論理解析できるネイティブによる添削

書く癖をつけている人、考える癖をつけている人がロジックの能力が強化されるポイントです。レポートや論文を書く癖がついていないひとが、急にライティングの技術が備わる訳ではありません。また書く練習だけではなく、書いたものにチェックを加えられ、論理力や表現力など評価される必要があります。やりっぱ、書きっぱで放置では自分の英語力をブラッシュアップできるはずもありません。添削にお金がかかるかもしれませんが、ケチっていてはいくらたっても能力は上がりません。お金をかけるところは、しっかりかけて自分自身を引き上げていきましょう。
[ 増永やすのり(TOEFL iBT17→80)] とにかく何度も書くことが重要かと思います。書きっぱなしではもちろんだめなので、先生に毎回直していただいたのはとても助かりました。先生に添削していただいたものを丁寧に何度も何度も見直したのが良かったと思います。過去のもので赤く直してもらったところを毎回書く前にチェックします。単語と一緒で、何回も見ていると、次回以降迷わなくなります。エッセーでは、書きたいことを自由に表現できることは最低ラインだと思います。変な表現があると、それだけで減点対象になると思うので。それよりも、一番気をつけないといけないのがロジカルです。これはほんと注意深くやらないと、すぐにズレていきます。書いている最中にもこまめに見直しを行います。特にパラグラフの書き終わりがトピックに繋がっているかを僕はチェックしていました。

[ 浦井千秋(TOEFL iBT32→81)] 先生の添削をもとに、文法や表現の仕方を工夫しました。一番重要なのはいかに論理的に書くかです。先生に筋が通っているか質問したり、先輩にエッセーを送って意見を頂いたりしました。また、添削して頂いたエッセーはプリントアウトして見直し、打ち直したりリーズンを変えて再度提出したりしました。参考にした教材はバロンズです。この参考書から10トピックくらい抜き出して、文章の構成を研究し、使える構文抜き出してノートにまとめました。このノートはライティングをやる際に見直し、その文章を打ち込んで音読しました。納得できないところは、先生にも質問して対応しました。

[ 新谷しょうたろう(TOEFLライティング8→24)] ライティングの知識を確実なものにするただ一つの道は、実際にエッセイを自分で書いてみることのみです!書くことによって、基本的なライティングの型に加えて、自分にとっての書きやすいスタイルがどのようなものかが見えてくると思います。そして、書いたものは添削してもらいました。点数を上げるためには、やはり客観的なフィードバックが必要だと思います。TOEFL勉強会でもエッセイを見て下さる先生がいると思うので、書いたら添削をしてもらい意見をもらうのが良いと思います。

TOEFLライティング学習方法
[2.] テンプレート学習

[ 松尾めーこ(TOEFL iBT47→92)ライティング→27点 ] ご覧のとおり27点をとっています。かなり。Integratedはご存じのとおりパターンが決まっています。リーディングに書いてあることを、教授が全否定します。だからそれを踏まえてメモをとりました。リーディングはまた見直せるので、簡単でいいと思います。また、途中でサンプルアンサーを読んで書くということもしました。説得力の強め方が分かりました。ただ、あまり見すぎると混乱するのでしぼるといいと思います。


[ 三浦よしたか(TOEFLライティング13→22点)] ロジカルを磨くためにしていたことはリーディングの教材270の音読です。270のパラグラフがどう構成されているのかを意識して音読を繰り返して、英文をどう展開させればいいのか無意識レベルで理解することができ、それをライティングで使うことで自然と点数が上がったのではないかと考えています。また270の音読をしながら、ライティングに使える表現を抜き出して覚えたのも役に立ったと思います。

[ 蛯名つかさ(TOEFL iBT63→100点)] ライティングのコツは”パクる”ことだと僕は思っています。どういうことかというと、英語には英語独特の言葉遣いだとか、フレーズがあります。それに論理展開がシンプルかつ理解されやすい、つまり採点者から評価される論理展開の仕方があります。そのためには、論理構築の仕方や言い回しを”パクる”のです。 また、論理構成として僕がもっとも参考になったのはBarron’sのライティングサンプルを10個くらい選んで、何度も読んで覚えることだと思います。 ここまで覚える事ばかり書いてきてしまいましたが、実際にアウトプット、つまり自分で英文を書くことをしなければ意味がありません。絶対に、毎日でもライティングは行うこと!

[ 新谷しょうたろう(TOEFLライティング8→24点)]  まずは「基本的なエッセイの書き方」を解説しているWebサイトなり参考書なりを読んで、土台を固めた方が良いと思います。エッセイの書き方は、良質な文章を真似て身につけている方もいました。良質な文章とは、オフィシャル問題集の模範解答や、先生に頂けるライティングの模範解答です。

[ 宮川ゆうき(TOEFLライティング5→21点)] 一番スコアが伸びやすいセクションです。笑 まずお勧めは、TOEFLの模範解答を見て、どういう文章が良いessayなのかを知る必要があります。どういうものが良いものかを理解していないと良いものは絶対書けないです。ある程度つかめてきたら、次は自分がしっくりくる型を作ります。それはnetにあるものでもなんでもいいと思います。型が決まったら、Bodyに力を一番入れて下さい。社会的要素、自分の経験を中心に、具体的な数字や詳細な例を盛り込みます。ついでに一文でもいいので、対比させる文章を加えるといいと思います。Wは型を作って慣れるまでが1段階目。具体例の盛り込み方に慣れるまでが2段階目。いろいろと形になってきてから改めて論理はしっかりしているか、ミスはないか等の細かい部分が3段階目だと思います。

[ 園部あつし(TOEFLライティング→27点)] ライティングはTOEFLの4セクションの中で最も点数を短期間で上げやすいと言われています。なので、誰もが高得点をとり、得点源にしたいところだと思います。僕が思うに、一番大事なのはどんなものが良いエッセイなのか、を理解することだと思います。自分の書いたエッセイが良いのか悪いのか、修正点があるのであればそれはどこなのか、などがわからない状態が続いてはいけません。サンプルを解析しいいエッセイを学び、書き方は難しくなくていいので自分の型を作りながら精進していきましょう。最初は文字数などもひとつの壁ですが、これは慣れの要素が大きいです。根気強く頑張りましょう。

また、ライティングは時間制限があり、求められている能力は「30分でエッセイを書く」ということで、時間を無視してしまっては全く別の能力になります。つまり、普段から30分という時間を徹底し、30分以上は手を加えないようにしましょう。(書き始めのころは全く形にならないかもしれないので、何分オーバー、というのを段々と縮めていくほうがいいかもしれません。)30分しかないので、思いつく理想のエッセイが書けるかどうかはわかりません。情報の取捨選択をし、いかに時間内で最高のものがつくれるかに固執しましょう。ロジックは大変重要で、いきなり書き始めてはあとでの修正が大変です。時間がもったいないと感じるかもしれませんが、最初は構成に時間をかけ(3~5分)、そして書き始めましょう。終わりにはこれもまた5分ほどとって、見直しをしましょう。余計な情報を消したり、必要な言葉を足したり、スペル、時制、三人称などを修正します。これをするとしないでは大きく点数も異なるので、ある程度のところでブレーキをし、見直しに切り替えるのも勇気です。
